Model Q&A: Cam Schott

Meet the model, artist, and “Georgia girl” who’s following her dreams in ATL.

Q: Tell us a little about yourself.

A: I've been a Georgia girl from the start. I was born and raised in Atlanta and currently live here. I've always been the kid into arts and crafts, drawing, design, and such, but the way I got into both is a story I could've never written myself. My journey has had a lot of twists and turns (most unexpected), but with a lot of prayer I have come to a place where I can say I truly am pursuing two dream jobs.

As I got older, the arts were kind of pushed to the side to go to university and study. About 3/4 of the way through college, I decided to take a break because the pressure of the unknown post-college was all too consuming. So I came back home to Atlanta for almost a year to clear my mind of any whirlwind emotions and focus on what 'Cam' was going to do moving forward.

During that time, art became a type of therapy for myself. I would find myself experimenting with drawing and painting again, and eventually a lightbulb went off in my mind to try and sell some work. Eventually after a few months, I had an online shop and was pumping out paintings left and right.

Simultaneously, some people I knew in the industry were asking if I would come volunteer for photoshoots and such. Honestly, there wasn't a definitive point where I decided to take this leap of faith but rather, it was all a God-ordained slow stepping journey into both careers. A couple of years later, I have my own website still running for Cam Schott Art and have been in galleries and art shows around Atlanta, and I get to call modeling a full-time career as well! It didn't come without hard work but I definitely believe that it's part of what I have been called to.

What are three fun facts about you?

  1. I just got a new last name in May! My boyfriend of seven years and I got married during quarantine, so my name is now technically Cam Schuessler.

  2. I hope someday to start my own interior design business (and incorporate my art into that).

  3. Malibu is my favorite place on earth.

Q:

What have been some of the most fun and inspiring collaborations you have worked on?

A: My most inspiring collaboration was with American Threads a couple years ago when they incorporated my art with their clothing. It was a super dreamy bit that included my cloud paintings while wearing some of their current inventory, and it was super fun — it let me unleash my creativity!

Honestly, I don't do too many collaborations, but everyone I work with is so inspiring. As a creative, it is such a breath of fresh air to work with other creatives for your job. Atlanta is so full of hungry and talented individuals, and I'm so grateful I get to work and know so many.

Q: How can the community support you

?

A: Any form of support means the world. Whether it's sharing a photo online, following the journey on Instagram, or purchasing a piece of artwork, t never gets old for a creator in this world to hear the support from those who appreciate your work!

Hearing that you and your work mean something to someone else is like music to our ears. Support is the only way we can stay afloat as artists and creators, so genuinely it all counts! I also believe that we have to keep the cycle going — the more we pour into other people, the more they are enabled to pour into others; it creates an endless channel for us to uplift others and others to uplift us.

Q: What other local businesses and/or creators are loving right now?

A: Ooh, this is tough. Atlanta is soooo full of so many talented creators and great businesses!

Dancing Goats and Cultivate Coffee will forever be favorites. Humans Before Handles makes the coolest accessories of all time. I would eat Superica for every meal if I could. And another for-life favorite creator of mine is Brynn W Casey- you have to check out her artwork!

Q: How can we connect with you?
