Q&A:
Megan Fechter
My name is Meg, and I am a self-taught abstract artist out of Atlanta. I am the founder and creator of The Reverie, an all-female co-working space on the south side of our beautiful city. I am passionate about spreading joy through color, empowering women to whole-heartedly chase after their callings, and cultivating creating communities where artists can uplift one another.
.
What are 3 fun facts about you?
I worked on a farm and sold duck eggs for a summer. One of my dreams is to have my own duck coup in my future home.
If you go to my house right now, I have 5 different journals I avidly keep up. I have been diligently journaling since the third grade. Art, food, prayers, ~ you name it, I journal about it!
I grew up in a very boisterous and vibrant military family, moving to a new city every single year for the first half of my life.
Q: Who are some of the local businesses you are loving right now?
I am proud to support all of the women-owned businesses + brands based out The Reverie. Outside of The Reverie, I am incredibly excited for my friend Archel who just opened her very first store front at Ponce City Market! (@shopbombchel)
Becalia Botanicals is a natural skincare and beauty brand which I adore! (@becaliabotanicals)
L' Artisan Muse a local holistic luxury wellness brand provides a unique experience where you can craft a one-of-kind personal scent. Owner November Nichols was one of the first female creators to speak life and words of encouragement over me as I embarked on my journey with full-time artistry.
Q: How did you get inspired to start The Reverie?
A: The Reverie is a product of a Craigslist posting, a vivid dream, and a calling. I was looking for a new studio and happened upon a gorgeous, rustic manufacturing warehouse on the outskirts of Atlanta. It was far too big for my needs (3,600 sq/ft to be exact) but I had an unshakable dream that night that left me with a vision of what it needed to become: a creative community for the female makers, designers, artists and dreamers of my city. I've always felt drawn to female empowerment initiatives in the creative space and through a lot of processing, prayer, and stars aligning, it became abundantly clear that this was how I was being called to support the women in my community. So I put my fears aside, an open house sign out front, and next thing I knew, I had enough tenants to pay for our very first months rent! There are 15 ladies in The Reverie now - from cinematographers, vintage fashion curators, to woodworkers - and they have made the space more incredible than I could have ever imagined.
What have been some of the most fun and inspiring collaborations you have done?
A: I've done a few special projects with my Alma Mater, The Georgia Institute of Technology..
Anything else you would like to share or any other ways we can support you?I too felt as though I lacked the right credentials, enough knowledge, or proper experience under my belt to even dream of what I felt called to become. So I just want to encourage any women resonating with that mindset, that YOU are more than enough. The only thing you need to get started is that extraordinary passion in your heart.
Be bold. Have faith. And just start walking. You'll get there - I promise!
